Repeal of regulation 54/R/15 - regarding health insurance for foreigners

We hereby inform that according to art. 25 section 1 point 2 letter a of the Act of December 12, 2013 on Foreigners (Journal of Laws of 2023, item 519, as amended):

1. Foreigners accepted to first- and second-cycle studies, long-cycle master's studies, postgraduate studies, doctoral schools, internships or specialized training, students participating in vocational training and education courses, as well as participating in scientific research and development work at the University of Gdańsk and other forms of education - during the entire period of their stay in the territory of the Republic of Poland, are obliged to be in possession and to present, at the request of the University, one of the documents specified in Art. 25 section 1 point 2 letter a of the Act of 12 December 2013 on Foreigners, in particular:

a) a document certifying that he/she has health insurance within the meaning of the Act of 27 August 2004 on health care services financed from public funds 

b) a document confirming possession of travel medical insurance or another insurance policy covering medical costs - meeting the requirements specified in Art. 25 section 1 point 2 letter a and section 1b of the Act of 12 December 2013 on Foreigners.

2. Having the insurance mentioned in point 1 is an individual statutory obligation of a foreigner staying in the territory of the Republic of Poland. The University of Gdańsk is not liable for failure to fulfill this obligation by a foreigner.

3. It is also recommended that the above-mentioned foreigners have a policy confirming accident insurance.

A PhD at the European University Institute

The EUI offers four-year PhD programmes in four departments:

- Political and Social Sciences. 

It also offers an LLM programme in Comparative, European and International Law and a Master of Research in Economics.
Each year there are approximately 130 fully-funded scholarships for PhD study, provided by EUI Contracting States and Associated Member States.
Our online application form opens in November, for admission the following September. You must complete our online application form and submit all required documents by 31 January.
The Polish Ministry of Education and Science awards 10 scholarships every year.

Call for applications for the I INCLUDE GENDER IN RESEARCH Special Award under the MINDtheGEPs

Dear Academia,


The call for applications for the second edition of the Special Award 'I include gender in research' for the highest-rated master's and doctoral theses incorporating a gender perspective in the area of research has been extended until 24 November 2023.

As part of the EU Horizon 2020 project Modifying Institutions by Developing Gender Equality Plans (MINDtheGEPs) implemented at the University of Gdansk, a number of activities are being undertaken to implement gender equality policies at our university, as set out in the Gender Equality Plan for the University of Gdansk.  Equality meassures for the years 2022-2023.

One of the project's activities is the awarding of annual prizes for the highest-rated master thesis and doctoral dissertation integrating gender into scientific research. In 2023, the formula for the award has been extended - master's theses and doctoral dissertations can be submitted separately from two areas: the social sciences and humanities, and the sciences and natural sciences As a result, if the submitted works meet the contest criteria, the jury will be able to award two prizes for master's theses (one from each area) and two for doctoral theses (one from each area). In this year's edition of the contest, the Award may be applied for by those who were awarded either a master's degree or a doctoral degree at the University of Gdańsk in 2022 or 2023.

The prizes in 2023 will amount to PLN 2000 for master's theses and PLN 3000 for doctoral theses, respectively. Detailed rules of the competition are given in the Regulations of the "I include gender in research".

Applicants are invited to submit their master and doctoral theses by 24 November 2023.

- the completed "I include gender in research" award form (appendix 1),

2)    By 4 December 2023, the winner(s) of the "I include gender in research" Award will be announced.

3)    By the end of 2023, there will be an award ceremony for the winners of the contest and a presentation of the winning papers.

International Scientific Conference on Innovation and Entrepreneurship

On February 9-11, 2024, the CIU organizes the International Scientific Conference on Innovation and Entrepreneurship which will be held in Tbilisi and Telavi.


The high-level scientific event aims to promote the development and internationalization of the latest scientific research on innovation and entrepreneurship, to deepen cooperation between the academic, public, and business sectors and to promote it among young scientists.

The conference is open for academic and scientific staff of universities, experts employed in the public and private sectors, master's and doctoral students, young scientists, and professionals interested in intersectoral cooperation on innovation and entrepreneurship.

The conference is being held within the framework of the project financed by Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia. Caucasus International University is the host of the event and the leading and co-sponsoring organization of the project.

Seminar on Power Sample Analysis and Sample Size Determination

We invite you to a "Power Sample Analysis and Sample Size Determination seminar" hosted by Lubor Homolka, Ph.D., Vice-Dean for PhD Study at Tomas Baťa University in Zlín. This seminar aims to enhance your understanding of important statistical concepts and empower you to make informed decisions when designing research studies.

Seminar Overview:
This seminar will delve into the critical aspects of power sample analysis and sample size determination. These topics are of utmost importance in conducting robust and meaningful research studies. By the end of the session, participants will be equipped with the skills to compute the appropriate sample size considering various factors, such as effect size, error rates, and other relevant characteristics. Statistical software G*power and R will be used throughout the seminar.

Dr Lubor Homolka works at the Department of Statistics and Quantitative Methods. His research focuses on uncertainty modelling, behavioral economics and retirement planning. He lectures post-graduate course Research Methodology and graduate courses: Econometrics, Risk Management and Behavioral Economics.
